North West Youth League Round 1 Race Report

Red Rose at the Races!

George, Rhys and Dan were flying the flag for Red Rose Olympic this weekend at round 1 of the North West Youth League in Southport.

Road racing is a new venture for these guys and they all learned some valued lessons and picked up more experience of what is involved. They all learned about the gear checking and sign on process, and the importance of being prepared in advance.

There were two races for all riders; a short sprint race and a longer more endurance based race.

The boys had to put into practice the skills we have been learning down at the UCLAN track - clipping in at the first attempt, braking, cornering, riding surrounded by other riders, drafting riders in front and sprinting. And they got to do all of that in the intensity of a race and think through their tactics!

Each of the riders acquitted themselves really well and there was some close, exciting racing throughout the day.

Most importantly they had fun and are looking forward to the next one!

If anybody wants to come along to some of these events this year, there are five more, let one of the Club Coaches know and we will make sure you are supported on the day.
